Musings about the world and the kitchen

24 January 2008

Venue: Roots – Windermere, Durban

Branch committee: Peter Nixon (MC), Helen Jenvey (host), David, Julie, Jacqui

Meal: Lemon and ginger chicken stir fry and lemon steamed hake stir fry for pescetarian Dave. Waffles for dessert (made by the lovely hostess)

Topics discussed: Politics, travel stories, longdrops vs strip trenches.

Drinks consumed: Champagne, Springfield Life From Stone, more white wine, and some red wine.

Success rating: 7/10

Critique of meal: Something was missing, might have been chilli or something… Everyone else thought it was good – still can’t tell when people are just being nice or they actually genuinely like it. Vegetables also lost their colour, think that this might have been a Durban thing. Otherwise the lemon sauce came out very well and I seem to have got the trick of how to steam fish.

Lessons learnt: How to steam fish. How to steam myself, by cooking in sticky, hot Durban.
